A Cherished Reflection: Delving into "Lee Kuan Yew and China's Reform and Opening-Up" at the Documentary Premiere
2023 commemorates two significant milestones: the centenary of the birth of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the founding Prime Minister of Singapore, and the 45th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up. In recognition of these occasions, the Chinese Embassy in Singapore collaborated with Shenzhen Media Group to produce the documentary "Lee Kuan Yew and China's Reform and Opening-up". This documentary premiered on September 12 in partnership with the Singapore Chinese General Chamber of Commerce.
Distinguished attendees at the event included Mr. Zhu Jin, Charge of Affairs of the Embassy, Mr. Kho Choon Keng, President of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, and Ms. Ng Bee Kim, Director-General (Trade) of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, representing the Singapore government. SIMSCOP Instrument, having contributed an interview to the film, joined over 200 other attendees from various sectors for the screening.
Mr. Zhu emphasized that while the documentary celebrates the centennial of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew's birth, it also aspires to inspire generations, particularly the youth, to further enrich China-Singapore relations. Mr. Ko Chuan Qingze reflected on the deep-rooted camaraderie between Singapore and China fostered by Mr. Lee and highlighted the continuous spirit of collaboration and mutual growth.
The documentary provides a rich tapestry of perspectives, capturing testimonies from over 50 individuals from both countries, ranging in age from their early 20s to near centenarians. Mr. John Yuan, the Founder and CEO of SIMSCOP, expressed his honour in participating and emphasized Mr. Lee's lifelong principle of "integrity". He underscored that as China's high-tech sector thrives over the next decade, professionals must draw inspiration from such principles.
The event concluded with a tea session, inviting attendees to enjoy some of Mr. Lee's favoured dishes and melodies, offering a heartfelt tribute to Singapore's esteemed founding prime minister.
